Welcome to Castle Park Theatre

This summer, Castle Park Theatre returns with live performances designed to be enjoyed outdoors – early evening shows, atmospheric after-dark productions, and theatre made for one of Colchester’s most distinctive public spaces. The programme also includes a full production run at Christchurch Mansion Lawn in Ipswich.

As with any project of this kind, there are many people to thank, including our project partners, corporate sponsors and our wonderful audiences. Opera in the Park

A night of opera classics in the picturesque surroundings of Castle Park, featuring works by Mozart, Puccini and Bizet.

The Hay Wain: Touring Show

August 19 to 30

Turning the traditional, bucolic, chocolate box ideal of Constable’s The Hay Wain on its head, you’ll never look at the landscape in quite the same way again.

Gates open an hour before each performance for audiences to enjoy the space.

A bar will be open for drinks and light snacks before each show and during the interval. Audience members are allowed picnics in the space and are advised to also bring chairs, a warm coat and blankets.

Performances will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions.

Castle Park Theatre – Colchester

All Castle Park Theatre performances in Colchester take place outdoors.

Gates open an hour before each performance for audiences to enjoy the space.

The Hay Wain – Ipswich

This production takes place at Christchurch Mansion Lawn in Christchurch Park, Ipswich.

There is no parking at Christchurch Mansion itself, but it is located in the town centre. The closest car parks are William Street and the Regent Theatre car park.

The Mansion is approximately ten minutes’ walk from Ipswich Museum, around twenty minutes from the railway station, and five minutes from Tower Ramparts bus station.
